Memmert

Overview
Memmert GmbH & Co. KG is a German engineering company that designs, manufactures, and distributes laboratory and industrial equipment for temperature and climate control. Its product portfolio includes heating and drying ovens, incubators, climate chambers, hot‑air sterilizers, vacuum ovens, water baths, and related accessories. The company markets its solutions worldwide to research institutions, pharmaceutical and medical manufacturers, and various industrial sectors that require precise environmental conditions for testing, development, or production processes.

History
The firm was founded by electrical engineer Willi Memmert in Schwabach, Germany, in the post‑World‑War era. The earliest notable project, commissioned by the Red Cross in 1947, involved the development of a temperature‑controlled chamber named “Aeolus” built from recycled aircraft aluminium. This innovation established Memmert’s reputation for creating reliable temperature‑control appliances.

During the 1950s and 1960s the company expanded its product line and began exporting beyond its domestic market. In 1974 a second manufacturing site was opened in Büchenbach to increase production capacity. After the accidental death of Willi Memmert in 1976, management passed to his widow Grete Memmert Riefler and Peter Riefler, who continued the focus on export and introduced electronic controllers and Peltier‑based devices.

The third generation of the family assumed leadership on 1 April 2007 when Christiane Riefler‑Karpa, daughter of Grete Memmert Riefler and Peter Riefler, became managing director. Under her direction the company expanded its global footprint, opening distribution subsidiaries in Shanghai (2010) and India (2012), and launched the “Generation 2012” series of appliances at the ACHEMA trade fair.

In 2023 Memmert celebrated its 90th anniversary, marking nine decades of continuous operation and product development.

Products and Technologies
Memmert’s offerings are characterized by precise temperature regulation, programmable control interfaces, and modular design. Key product families include:

  • Heating and Drying Ovens – Used for material processing, sterilization, and thermal analysis, with options for vacuum drying, blanket warming, and infrared heating.
  • Incubators – Provide controlled temperature, humidity, and CO₂ environments for cell culture, microbiology, and biomedical research.
  • Climate Chambers – Large‑scale units that simulate a wide range of environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, light, airflow) for stability testing, product qualification, and climate research.
  • Water Baths and Hot‑Air Sterilizers – Serve laboratory and industrial sterilization needs with uniform heat distribution.

The company emphasizes energy efficiency, digital connectivity (remote programming, network integration), and compliance with international standards such as IEC 60730 and ISO 9001.
