Melvin A. Halsted House is a historic home located at 201 East Main Street in Lowell, Lake County, Indiana. It was built in 1850 and is a two-story, five-bay, Federal-style brick dwelling with a gable roof. The house also features a rear lean-to addition.
The home was constructed by Melvin A. Halsted, a founder of the town of Lowell, who used bricks fired in his own kiln located just across Cedar Creek. Halsted resided in the house until 1905. The structure is recognized as the oldest brick house in Lake County, Indiana.
The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 8, 1978, under NRHP reference number 78000037. It occupies an area of less than one acre. The house is significant for its contributions to the themes of Industry and Exploration/Settlement in the region.
