Definition
Mechamato Movie is a 2022 Malaysian animated superhero film that serves as a prequel to the Mechamato animated television series.
Overview
The film was produced by Animonsta Studios in partnership with Astro Shaw and was written and directed by Nizam Razak. It premiered in Malaysia and Brunei on 8 December 2022, followed by releases in Singapore and Indonesia in March 2023. With a production budget of approximately MYR 10 million (≈ USD 2.13 million), the movie grossed around MYR 35.88 million (≈ USD 7.68 million) worldwide.
The narrative follows a young boy named Amato who discovers a crashed prison spaceship containing the sentient robot MechaBot. After befriending the robot, Amato becomes its master, gaining the ability to “mechanize” everyday objects into high‑tech devices. Together they confront the mercenary alien Grakakus, who seeks to capture MechaBot for his own collection of power‑spheres. The story introduces supporting characters such as Amato’s friend Pian, wheelchair‑using classmate Mara, and the silat master Tok Sah, establishing the origins of the hero’s later exploits in the television series.
Etymology / Origin
The title combines “Mecha,” a Japanese‑derived prefix meaning “mechanical” or “robotic,” with “Amato,” the name of the protagonist. The compound reflects the central premise of a human‑robot partnership that powers the hero’s mechanized abilities.
