Maurice Morgan (1692–1733) — British Army officer and politician. He was baptized on 27 September 1692 in Freshwater, Isle of Wight, the second son of Anthony Morgan. He served in the British Army, rising to captain and lieutenant-colonel in the 3rd Foot Guards by 1722. He was elected unopposed as Member of Parliament for Yarmouth (Isle of Wight) in April 1725 and was re-elected in 1727, consistently voting with the Administration. He succeeded his father in 1729 and became Lieutenant-Governor of the Isle of Wight in January 1731. He died unmarried on 24 April 1733.
Maurice Morgan(n) (c. 1725–1802) — Shakespearean commentator and political writer, of Welsh descent. He was descended from the Morgan family of Blaenbylan, Pembrokeshire. In October 1766, he was appointed clerk in the secretary of state's office and private secretary to the Earl of Shelburne. He served in Quebec from 1768 to 1770, later became under-secretary of state, and in 1782 was in New York acting as secretary to Governor Guy Carleton. In 1783, he was secretary to the embassy for peace with America. He wrote several pamphlets on political and social subjects (1758–1794), but is best remembered for his Essay on the Dramatic Character of Sir John Falstaff (1777). He died in Knightsbridge on 28 March 1802.
