Matt Vogel (swimmer)

Matt Vogel (born June 3, 1957) is an American former competition swimmer, Olympic champion, and former world record-holder.

Vogel represented the United States at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Quebec. He won a gold medal as a member of the winning U.S. team in the men's 4×200-meter freestyle relay, together with his teammates Mike Bruner, Bruce Furniss, and Jim Montgomery. The American relay team set a new world record of 7:26.64 in the event final. Individually, he also competed in the men's 100-meter butterfly, finishing fourth with a time of 54.86 seconds.

Before the Olympics, Vogel was a standout swimmer for the University of Tennessee Volunteers swimming and diving team, coached by Ray Bussard. He was an NCAA champion and a multiple All-American selection.

After his swimming career, Vogel worked in business. He has remained active in the swimming community, participating in masters swimming events and supporting youth swimming programs.
