Matthew John Lowton (born 9 June 1989) is an English professional footballer who plays as a right back. He has played in the English Football League and Premier League for clubs including Sheffield United, Aston Villa and Burnley, and, as of 2024, for Precision Football in the United Arab Emirates Second Division League.
Early life and youth career
Lowton was born in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He began his youth career with Leeds United (1999–2004) before joining the academy of Sheffield United in 2004 at the age of fifteen.

Sheffield United – After progressing through the youth ranks, Lowton made his first‑team debut in March 2010. He became a regular starter in the 2010–11 season, scoring four league goals.
Aston Villa – Lowton transferred to Villa in July 2012 for an undisclosed fee (reported around £3 million). He made 72 Premier League appearances, scoring his first league goal for the club against Swansea City in September 2012.
Burnley – In June 2015, Lowton signed for Burnley on a three‑year contract (fee reported near £1 million). He contributed to Burnley’s 2015–16 Championship title and subsequent promotion to the Premier League, making over 180 league appearances for the club.
