Marvin R. Sambur

Marvin R. Sambur is an American engineer and government official who served as the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition from 2001 to 2005 under President George W. Bush. In this role, he was responsible for the development, acquisition, and sustainment of all U.S. Air Force weapon systems.

Early Life and Education Sambur earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the City College of New York. He furthered his education at the University of Connecticut, where he received both a Master of Science degree and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering.

Career

  • Private Sector: Prior to his government service, Sambur held various senior leadership positions in the aerospace and defense industry. His career included roles at ITT Industries, where he was Vice President and General Manager of the Avionics Division, and at Lockheed Martin, where he served as Vice President of Engineering for Information and Communication Systems.
