Marty McManus

Martin Joseph McManus (July 15, 1906 – April 23, 1976) was an American professional baseball player and manager. He played primarily as a second baseman in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1927 to 1941, most notably for the Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Browns, and Cincinnati Reds. Over his 15‑season career, McManus compiled a .302 batting average, accumulated 1,903 hits, and recorded 95 home runs and 871 runs batted in (RBI). He was selected to the All‑Star Game in 1935 and led the American League in doubles (48) in 1935.

After his playing career, McManus served as a player‑manager in the minor leagues, including stints with the Dallas Eagles and the Minneapolis Millers. He later worked as a scout for several MLB organizations. McManus was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 1975.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he attended St. Louis University before signing with the Chicago Cubs organization. He died in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 69.
