Martin Laursen (born 26 July 1977) is a Danish former professional footballer who played as a centre‑back. He is noted for his club career in Denmark, Italy, and England, as well as his extensive service with the Denmark national team.
Early life and youth career
Born in Fårvang, near Silkeborg, Denmark, Laursen began playing football with the local amateur side Horn/Fårvang before joining the youth ranks of Silkeborg IF.

Laursen’s professional debut came with Silkeborg in the Danish Superliga. In 1998 he transferred to Hellas Verona, helping the club achieve promotion to Serie A. A co‑ownership deal saw him move to Parma in 2001, after which he spent a season on loan at A.C. Milan. He later joined Milan permanently, winning the 2003 UEFA Champions League and the 2004 Serie A title. In 2004 he signed for Premier League side Aston Villa, where he eventually became club captain. Persistent knee problems limited his appearances, leading to his retirement from playing in 2009.
International career
Laursen earned 53 caps for the Denmark national team between 2000 and 2008, scoring two goals. He represented Denmark at UEFA Euro 2000, the 2002 FIFA World Cup, and UEFA Euro 2004. In 2008 he was named Danish Football Player of the Year.
Managerial career
After retiring as a player, Laursen briefly managed Danish lower‑division club Søllerød‑Vedbæk (2011–2012).
