Martin John Christopher Freeman (born 8 September 1971) is an English actor. He gained widespread recognition for his roles in various acclaimed television series and blockbuster films.
Freeman first rose to prominence portraying Tim Canterbury in the BBC One comedy series The Office (2001–2003). He later achieved international fame for his portrayal of Dr. John Watson in the BBC crime drama Sherlock (2010–2017), for which he won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie.
His film career includes starring as Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit film trilogy (2012–2014) and Arthur Dent in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005). In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he plays Everett K. Ross, appearing in Captain America: Civil War (2016) and Black Panther (2018), and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022).
On television, Freeman's other notable roles include Lester Nygaard in the first season of the FX anthology series Fargo (2014), for which he received a Golden Globe Award nomination, and Paul Worsley in the Sky One comedy Breeders (2020–present). He has also appeared in stage productions and contributed to various radio dramas.
