Marshall Cook (born June 16, 1982) is an American filmmaker, actor, writer, producer, and commercial director based in Los Angeles, California. He is known for his work across independent film, television, and advertising.
Early Life and Education
Marshall Cook was born in Santa Rosa, California, to actress Catherine DePrima and Leo Cook, a landscaper and former quarterback. He attended Cardinal Newman High School, where he played quarterback on the football team. He later attended Occidental College in Los Angeles, where he played Division III football for two years and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film and New Media Production with a minor in Theater.
Acting Career
Cook made his feature film debut in Jeepers Creepers 2 (2003). His television credits include guest appearances on JAG (2004), Medical Investigation (2004), How I Met Your Mother (2007), Weeds (2011), Parenthood (2011), and a recurring role as Gerry Kernan on the Amazon legal drama Goliath (2019). His film acting credits include Division III: Football's Finest (2011), Copshop (2021), Not Without Hope (2025), and Shadow Force (2025).
Filmmaking Career
Cook began his directing career with award-winning short films, including AdCorp, Inc. (2005), Division III (2006), and Just the Worst (2008). His feature directorial debut was Division III: Football's Finest (2011), a sports comedy he also co-wrote, produced, edited, and starred in. His second feature, Film Fest (2020), premiered at the Austin Film Festival, where it won the Jury Award. He is currently developing a third feature, Champions of the Universe, co-written with comedian Will Sasso.
Commercial Work
Cook has directed, written, and produced over 100 commercials for major brands and agencies. He began in branded content through Tongal.com competitions, where he and his producing partner Tyler Hawes were named "Tongaler of the Year" in 2014 and inducted into the Tongal Hall of Fame in 2015 as part of their production company, Convoy Entertainment.
Personal Life
Cook resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Michelle, whom he married around 2014. He volunteers with Pups Without Borders, a dog rescue organization.
