Marko Terrell Mitchell (born March 11, 1985) is an American former professional football wide receiver. He was selected by the Washington Redskins in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL draft and played college football for the Nevada Wolf Pack.
Early Life and Education
Mitchell was born in Port Huron, Michigan, to mother Geneva Mitchell. He attended Sumter County High School in York, Alabama, where he was a standout basketball player and began playing football during his junior year. He initially attended Itawamba Community College in Mississippi, then transferred to Mesa Community College in Arizona, where he played football and recorded 34 receptions for 719 yards and eight touchdowns. He later transferred to the University of Nevada, Reno.
College Career
At Nevada, Mitchell played from 2006 to 2008. In 2007, he recorded 53 receptions for 1,129 yards and eight touchdowns, leading the team in each category. His 21.3 yards per catch ranked second-highest in the nation. In 2008, he recorded 61 receptions for 1,141 yards and ten touchdowns, earning first-team All-WAC honors.
Professional Career
Mitchell was drafted 243rd overall by the Washington Redskins in the 2009 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year, $1.793 million contract in June 2009. He appeared in NFL regular season games for the Redskins, recording 4 receptions for 32 yards. He was waived by the Redskins in May 2010 and subsequently had brief stints with the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings. He also played for the Edmonton Eskimos and Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League.
