Mark Kwok Kin‑ming (born 20 June 1977) is a former competitive swimmer who represented Hong Kong in international events. Specialising in middle‑distance freestyle, he also competed in butterfly and individual medley races. Kwok is a two‑time Olympian (1996 Atlanta, 2000 Sydney) and won a bronze medal in the 400 m freestyle at the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok. He held multiple Hong Kong national records in the 200, 400 and 800 m freestyle events.
Early life and education
Born in Laguna Hills, California, United States, Kwok is the son of a Hong Kong father and an American mother, giving him dual residency and eligibility to compete for Hong Kong. He began swimming at age four and progressed through local clubs, eventually joining the Mission Viejo Nadadores. Kwok attended Laguna Hills High School, where he excelled in both academics (4.02 GPA) and swimming, earning U.S. Swimming Scholastic All‑American honors.
College career
In 1995 Kwok accepted an athletic scholarship to the University of Southern California (USC). While competing for the USC Trojans under coach Mark Schubert, he earned four All‑American honors in the 400‑yard freestyle and the 4 × 200‑yard freestyle relay. He set notable NCAA marks in the 200‑yard freestyle (1:37.53), 500‑yard freestyle (4:25.09) and 400‑yard individual medley (3:55.26). Kwok graduated in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
