Definition
Mark Footitt (born 7 March 1987) is an English former professional cricketer who played as a left‑arm fast‑medium bowler. He represented several county clubs in England, most notably Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, and was selected for England’s Test squad in 2012, although he did not make an international appearance.
Overview
Footitt began his first‑class career with Nottinghamshire in 2004, debuting in the County Championship at the age of 17. Over his career he played for Nottinghamshire (2004–2009), Derbyshire (2010–2012), and returned to Nottinghamshire for a second spell (2013–2014), before moving to Somerset (2015–2016). In addition to first‑class cricket, he appeared in List A and Twenty20 matches across the English domestic circuit. In 2012 he was named in England’s touring squad for the series in India, but withdrew due to a recurring calf injury and never earned a Test cap.
Throughout his career, Footitt was noted for his ability to swing the ball both ways and generate bounce from a relatively modest height. He took more than 250 first‑class wickets, with a career best of 7 / 39. Persistent injuries, particularly to his calf and hamstring, limited his playing time during the latter part of his career, leading to his retirement from professional cricket in 2017.

The surname “Footitt” is of English origin and is relatively uncommon. It is thought to be a variant of “Footit” or “Footet,” potentially derived from a locational name linked to an early medieval habitational term. The given name “Mark” originates from the Latin “Marcus,” which was used in the Roman calendar.
