Mariya Chorna

Mariya Volodymyrivna Chorna (born August 26, 1974) is a Ukrainian politician and civil servant who served as the Governor of Kirovohrad Oblast from 2021 to 2022.

Early Life and Education Chorna was born in the village of Vyshniaky in the Khorol District of Poltava Oblast, Ukraine. She pursued higher education at the V. G. Korolenko Poltava State Pedagogical University, graduating in 1998. She later attended the Kirovohrad National Technical University, where she earned a degree in finance in 2011.

Career Prior to her appointment to high-level regional office, Chorna held various positions within the local government and civil service sectors of Kirovohrad Oblast. Her professional background is largely centered on economic development and agricultural administration. She served as the deputy director of the Department of Agricultural Development of the Kirovohrad Regional State Administration and later as the head of the Department of the Agro-Industrial Complex.

Gubernatorial Tenure On May 27, 2021, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed Mariya Chorna as the Head of the Kirovohrad Regional State Administration (Governor). Her appointment followed the dismissal of the previous governor, Andriy Nazarenko.

During her tenure, Chorna oversaw regional administrative responses to infrastructure projects and local economic initiatives. Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, she managed regional defense and humanitarian coordination within Kirovohrad Oblast.

Dismissal Chorna was dismissed from her position as Governor on June 8, 2022, by presidential decree. She was succeeded by Andriy Raykovych, who had previously served as the Mayor of Kropyvnytskyi. Following her dismissal, she continued to be involved in public service and regional administration in a different capacity.
