Maria the Maid (German: Maria, die Magd) is a 1936 German drama film directed by Veit Harlan and starring Hilde Körber, Hilde Hildebrand, and Alfred Abel. The film is based on Die Kindsmagd, a novella by Walter Harlan (the director's father).
Plot Summary
The story centers on a neglectful actress and her lawyer husband whose demanding careers leave their young son primarily in the care of their devoted housemaid, Maria. Maria assumes a maternal role in the child's life, which eventually sparks a family crisis over the boy's upbringing.
