Maria Friedman

Maria Friedman is a British actress, singer, and stage director known primarily for her work in musical theatre. Born on July 3, 1960, in London, England, she has had a prominent career in the UK's West End and in various theatrical productions across Europe and North America. Friedman has received critical acclaim for her performances in musicals such as "Sunday in the Park with George," "The Witches of Eastwick," "Merrily We Roll Along," and "Passion," the latter earning her a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical in 1997.

She began her professional career in the 1980s and has since appeared in numerous productions, often associated with the works of Stephen Sondheim, composer and lyricist whose complex musical scores she has interpreted extensively. In addition to her performance career, Friedman has directed stage productions, including revivals of "Merrily We Roll Along" at various UK venues.

Friedman has also released several solo albums, many featuring interpretations of Sondheim's works and other theatrical standards.
