Mare (band)

Mare were a Canadian experimental metal band from Toronto, Ontario. Formed in 2004, the group combined sludge metal with elements of post‑metal, jazz fusion, unconventional time signatures, and Gregorian chant. The original lineup consisted of vocalist and guitarist Tyler Semrick‑Palmateer, bassist Rob Shortil, and drummer Caleb Collins.

The band released a self‑titled EP in 2004 through Hydra Head Records, which compiled material from several earlier demos. They contributed a cover of “Night Goat” to the compilation We Reach: The Music of the Melvins. After an initial period of activity ending in 2007, Mare re‑formed in 2015 as a two‑piece comprising Semrick‑Palmateer and Collins. The re‑formed lineup performed at the Prague Death Mass festival in 2023.
