Marcelo Boeck

Marcelo Boeck (born November 28, 1984) is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He is widely recognized for his extensive career in both Brazilian and Portuguese football, playing for clubs such as Internacional, Sporting CP, Chapecoense, and Fortaleza.

Early Life and Career

Born in Marechal Cândido Rondon, Paraná, Boeck began his football career in the youth ranks of Sport Club Internacional, one of Brazil's most prominent clubs. He rose through the ranks and made his senior debut for Internacional in 2004. During his time at Internacional, he was part of squads that achieved significant success, including winning multiple Campeonato Gaúcho titles.

Club Career

Internacional

Boeck spent several years at Internacional, primarily serving as a backup goalkeeper but gaining valuable experience and contributing to the team's domestic triumphs. He was part of the squad that won the Copa Libertadores in 2006, although he did not play in the final match.

Marítimo

In 2011, Boeck moved to Europe, joining Portuguese Primeira Liga club CS Marítimo. He quickly established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper and became a key player for the team, making over 40 appearances across all competitions in his debut season. His strong performances attracted attention from bigger clubs in Portugal.

Sporting CP

Boeck's impressive form at Marítimo earned him a transfer to Lisbon giants Sporting CP in 2012. At Sporting, he initially served as a backup but eventually competed for the starting spot, especially after the departure of Rui Patrício to Wolves. He played in various domestic cup matches and some league games, gaining experience in a top-tier European club.

Chapecoense (loan)

In 2016, Boeck returned to Brazil, joining Chapecoense on loan. He became an important part of the squad during a historic period for the club, as they advanced to the final of the Copa Sudamericana. Notably, Boeck left Chapecoense on November 25, 2016, to join Fortaleza, just three days before the tragic LaMia Flight 2933 crash that claimed the lives of most of the Chapecoense team and staff en route to the final. His departure prior to the incident meant he narrowly avoided the disaster, a fact that became a significant part of his personal story.

Fortaleza

Following his departure from Chapecoense, Boeck signed with Fortaleza Esporte Clube. He quickly became a beloved figure and a cornerstone of the team, playing a crucial role in the club's rise. With Fortaleza, he helped the team secure promotion to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and establish themselves in Brazil's top flight. He also won multiple Campeonato Cearense titles and the Copa do Nordeste.

Later Career and Retirement

After a successful stint at Fortaleza, Boeck later joined Vitória in 2022. He announced his retirement from professional football in 2023, concluding a career that spanned nearly two decades.
