Manujan County

Definition
Manujan County (Persian: شهرستان منوجان) is an administrative subdivision (county) of Kerman Province in southeastern Iran. Its administrative capital is the city of Manujan.

Located at approximately 27°26′ N latitude and 57°38′ E longitude, Manujan County lies in the southern part of Kerman Province. According to the 2016 national census, the county had a total population of 65,705 residents distributed among 18,352 households. The county is organized into two primary districts (bakhsh): the Central District and Aseminun District. Within these districts are several rural districts (dehestān) and two cities, Manujan and Nowdezh.

Etymology/Origin
The name “Manujan” is derived from the Persian rendering of the local settlement’s historic name. Variants of the name in Persian script include منوجان (Manūjān) and the older form Posht Qalāt. The exact linguistic origin of the term is not definitively documented, but it is commonly associated with the region’s historical designation as a fortified settlement (Qal‘eh‑ye Manūjān, meaning “Fort Manujan”).
