Mandy Clemens

Mandy Clemens (born October 14, 1978) is a former American professional soccer player who played as a forward and midfielder. She was a prominent figure in collegiate and early professional women's soccer in the United States, known for her prolific scoring and playmaking abilities.

Early Life and Collegiate Career Clemens grew up in California and attended Santa Clara University, where she had an exceptionally distinguished collegiate career from 1997 to 2001. As a key player for the Santa Clara Broncos, she led the team to its first-ever NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship in 2001. During her time at Santa Clara, she was a three-time All-American and set numerous school records. In her senior year, she was awarded the Hermann Trophy, recognizing her as the top collegiate soccer player in the nation. She finished her collegiate career with 70 goals and 72 assists, placing her among the top all-time scorers and assist leaders in NCAA history.

Professional Career Following her outstanding collegiate career, Clemens was drafted by the San Jose CyberRays in the inaugural Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) draft in 2000 (though the league began play in 2001). She played for the CyberRays for the 2001 season, contributing to their championship run as they won the first Founders Cup. She later moved to the Philadelphia Charge for the 2002 and 2003 seasons, continuing to be a significant offensive threat. The WUSA folded after the 2003 season, effectively ending the first professional league for women's soccer in the U.S.

International Career Clemens also earned caps for the United States women's national soccer team. She made her senior national team debut in 2001 and participated in several international matches, though her national team career was relatively brief given the strong competition for forward and midfield spots.

Post-Playing Career After the WUSA ceased operations, Clemens pursued a career outside of professional soccer. She has since been involved in various capacities, including coaching and youth soccer development.
