Malinda Lowe

Malinda Lowe (born 13 August 1979) is a Sri Lankan audio engineer, record producer, songwriter, and event manager, best known for his expertise in live sound design, mixing, and post-production. He is the founder and director of Universal Sound Productions, a Sri Lankan audio production company established in 2009.

Early Life and Education

Lowe was born in Chilaw, Sri Lanka. He discovered his passion for music in childhood, learning to play the keyboard and piano from instructor Dulip Gabadamudalige while attending school. He attended St. Anthony's College during the 1990s. He pursued vocational training in audio engineering at Harman International Business School in California, where he completed a comprehensive course endorsing him to work with Harman products. He further advanced his skills by sitting for digital mixing examinations in Bangalore alongside leading Indian audio engineers, where he achieved the second-highest marks in the final assessment. He became a member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES) in New York and was appointed as a Harman technical presenter in Sri Lanka.

Career

Lowe entered the audio engineering industry in 2002, beginning with a collaboration with Sri Lankan musician Nalin Perera on a radio jingle project. By 2006, he had advanced to the role of sound engineer for Perera's solo album Bambarindu. He also served as the sound engineer for Nalin Perera's band Marians during their first unplugged concert.

He founded Universal Sound Productions in 2009, which specializes in professional audio rental and production services, including sound reinforcement systems, stage, and lighting solutions for events across Sri Lanka. The company maintains partnerships with major audio brands, notably HARMAN Professional (JBL, Crown, dbx, and Soundcraft).

Lowe has provided audio design for performances by numerous international artists during their Sri Lankan shows, including Sonu Nigam, Udit Narayan, Olivia Newton-John, Mohombi, Iyaz, Leo Sayer, and Billy Ocean. Notable projects include the Colombo Night Races, the Sri Lanka Premier League opening show, and the BNS Drive-in Concerts at Colombo International Airport. He is also known for recording and mixing songs for artists such as Shreya Ghoshal, Udit Narayan, Olivia Newton-John, Mohombi, Akon, Sonu Nigam, Bathiya and Santhush, and The Gypsies.

He is a certified engineer for Avid Live Sound, Avid Pro Tools, Waves Audio, and Audinate, and is a member of the Events Management Association of Sri Lanka (EMA).
