Malaric

Malaric was a Visigothic nobleman who briefly claimed the throne of the Visigothic Kingdom in 531 CE. Following the assassination of King Amalaric in Barcelona, Malaric, who may have been a relative, attempted to seize power. His claim was short-lived, however, as he was quickly challenged and killed by Theudis, a prominent Ostrogothic general who had been acting as regent for Amalaric. Theudis subsequently ascended to the Visigothic throne himself, effectively ending Malaric's brief and unsuccessful bid for kingship. Malaric's attempted reign highlights the volatile political landscape of the Visigothic Kingdom during the early 6th century.
