Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Maksim Chmerkovskiy (born 20 January 1982) is a Ukrainian‑American professional ballroom dancer, choreographer, and television personality. He is best known for his appearances as a professional dancer on the U.S. reality competition series Dancing with the Stars and for his participation in the first season of So You Think You Can Dance.

Early life and education
Maksim Chmerkovskiy was born in Odesa, then part of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, Soviet Union (present‑day Ukraine. He began dancing at the age of six, studying Latin and ballroom styles under the tutelage of his mother, a dance instructor, and other local coaches. Chmerkovskiy later attended the Odesa State National Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture, though his primary focus remained on competitive dance.
