Makis Papaioannou (Greek: Μάκης Παπαϊωάννου; born 6 July 1959) is a Greek former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He is most notably recognized for his time with Panathinaikos and OFI Crete, and for representing the Greece national team.
Career
Papaioannou began his professional career with Panathinaikos, one of Greece's most prominent clubs, where he played from 1977 to 1981. During his tenure with the Greens, he contributed to the team's success, including winning the Greek Cup in 1981.
Following his spell at Panathinaikos, he moved to Panionios, where he remained for four seasons (1981–1985).
His most significant period arguably came with OFI Crete, where he played from 1985 to 1991. At OFI, he was a key player in the club's golden era, helping them achieve their historic Greek Cup victory in 1987, the club's first major trophy. He played a crucial role in the final match against Iraklis.
International Career
Papaioannou also earned caps for the Greece national team. He made his international debut in 1980 and represented his country in several matches, including participating in qualifying campaigns.
