Mahmoud El Khatib

Mahmoud Mustafa Mohamed El Khatib (Arabic: محمود الخطيب; born 26 July 1954) is a retired Egyptian professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder and forward. Renowned for his technical skill, vision, and scoring ability, El Khatib is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers in the history of Egyptian and African football. He spent his entire club career with Al Ahly SC and represented the Egypt national team in multiple international tournaments.

Mahmoud El Khatib was born in Zagazig, Sharqia Governorate, Egypt. He began playing football at a young age and joined the youth academy of Al Ahly SC in 1968. He progressed through the club’s development system, making his senior debut in the 1971–72 season at the age of 17.
