Maduravoyal Junction

Maduravoyal Junction is a major road intersection and transportation hub located in the Maduravoyal neighborhood of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It serves as a critical node in the regional highway network, facilitating the movement of traffic between the city center, its suburbs, and external industrial corridors.

The junction is the point of convergence for two primary arterial routes: National Highway 48 (NH 48, formerly NH 4), also known locally as Poonamallee High Road, and the Chennai Bypass (NH 32). NH 48 connects Chennai to Bengaluru and Mumbai, while the Chennai Bypass provides a north-south link connecting the southern suburbs (Tambaram and beyond) to the northern industrial areas and the Red Hills region.

Infrastructure at the junction includes a grade-separated cloverleaf interchange designed to manage the high volume of heavy vehicle and passenger traffic. This design allows for the seamless transfer of vehicles between the intersecting highways without the need for traditional traffic signals.

Maduravoyal Junction is also significant as the western terminus of the Chennai Port–Maduravoyal Expressway, an elevated road project intended to provide dedicated freight access between the Chennai Port and the national highway system. Due to its strategic location, the area surrounding the junction has evolved into a prominent commercial and residential locality, hosting various educational institutions and logistical facilities.
