Madrasa El Bechiria

The Madrasa El Bechiria (Arabic: المدرسة البشيرية) is a historic madrasa (Islamic educational institution) located in Tunis, Tunisia. It was founded in 1752 during the reign of Ali II ibn Hussein (Ali Bey II), a bey of Tunis from the Husainid dynasty.

Situated within the old medina of Tunis, the Madrasa El Bechiria is an example of 18th-century Tunisian architecture. Its design typically includes a central courtyard surrounded by student cells (rooms) and a prayer hall. As an educational institution, its primary purpose was to provide religious instruction, particularly in Islamic law and theology, and to offer accommodation for students and teachers.

The madrasa contributed to the intellectual and religious life of Tunis during the Husainid era, maintaining the city's reputation as a significant center of Islamic learning. Today, it is recognized as an important architectural and historical monument within the cultural heritage of Tunisia.
