Mac Tyer

Mac Tyer (born Socrate Petnga on 23 April 1979) is a French rapper of Cameroonian descent. He emerged from the suburb of Aubervilliers in Île‑de‑France and is known for his work both as a solo artist and as a member of several hip‑hop groups.

Early life and background
Socrate Petnga was born in Aubervilliers, a commune in the northern suburbs of Paris. He is of Cameroonian heritage, and his upbringing in the multicultural environment of the Parisian banlieues influenced his lyrical themes, which often address urban life and social issues.

Career

Group work
In the early 2000s, Petnga adopted the stage name Mac Tyer and co‑founded the rap duo Tandem with fellow rapper Mac Kregor (Makenzy Guerrier). Tandem released several mixtapes and gained recognition within the French underground rap scene. He later joined the trio Perestroika, alongside Mac Kregor and Dontcha, further expanding his collaborative repertoire.

Solo work
Mac Tyer launched his solo career with the mixtape Patrimoine du ghetto (2005), followed by the album Le Général (2006).
