Definition
MG-010 is a state‑maintained highway located in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. It forms part of the Minas Gerais State Highway network and is designated by the state code “MG” followed by the route number 010.
Overview
The highway extends for approximately 307.9 kilometres (191.3 mi), linking the state capital, Belo Horizonte, with the municipality of Rio Vermelho in the northern part of Minas Gerais. Since the inauguration of the Belo Horizonte International Airport in Confins, MG‑010 has become a principal arterial road for airport access and regional connectivity. In 2005 the state government initiated the “Green Line” project to modernize the corridor serving the airport, resulting in a series of upgrades and realignments along the route.
Etymology / Origin
The designation “MG‑010” follows the standard naming convention for state highways in Minas Gerais, where “MG” denotes the state and the numeric code identifies the specific route. The number 010 was assigned by the Departamento de Estradas de Rodagem de Minas Gerais (DER‑MG) when the highway was incorporated into the state road system.
