Lyevaya Lyasnaya

Lyevaya Lyasnaya (Belarusian: Левая Лясная) is a river in western Belarus, situated within the Brest Region (Brest Voblast). It is a left‑bank tributary of the Lyasnaya River, which in turn flows into the Bug River, a right‑bank tributary of the Narew and ultimately the Vistula, draining into the Baltic Sea.

Geography

  • Source: The river originates in the Mylnisk area of Pruzhany Raion.
  • Mouth: It joins the Pravaya Lyasnaya near the town of Kamyanyets, forming the Lyasnaya River.
  • Coordinates (mouth): 52°26′24″ N 23°54′31″ E (52.4400 N, 23.9087 E).
  • Length: Approximately 50 km (31 mi).
  • Basin area: About 750 km² (290 sq mi).
  • Average discharge: 3.6 m³ s⁻¹ at the mouth.
  • Average slope: 0.5 ‰.

Course
The river flows through the districts (raions) of Pruzhany and Kamenets within Brest Voblast. Settlements along its course include the villages of Mylnisk, Kamyanyets, and Vuglyany.

Tributaries

  • Leśna Prawa (Pravaya Lyasnaya) – a right‑bank tributary that merges with Lyevaya Lyasnaya near Kamyanyets.
  • Wishnia – a smaller tributary joining the river in its lower reaches.

Hydrology and Environment
Lyevaya Lyasnaya is part of the larger Bug River basin, contributing to the regional water balance and supporting local ecosystems. The river’s modest gradient and moderate discharge characterize it as a typical lowland watercourse of the Belarusian plain.
