Luke Evans

Luke Evans (born 15 April 1979) is a Welsh actor and singer. He has performed in theatre, television, and film, gaining international recognition for roles in both musical productions and major motion pictures.

Early life and education
Luke George Everson (professionally known as Luke Evans) was born in Pontypool, Monmouthshire, Wales. He attended Caerleon Comprehensive School and later studied drama at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, graduating in 2005.

Theatre career
After completing his training, Evans joined the Royal Shakespeare Company, appearing in productions such as The Tempest (2005) and The Merry Wives of Windsor (2007). He achieved notable success in the West End as the title character in the musical Rent (2008), for which he received a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical. He later performed as the Phantom in the 2012 West End revival of The Phantom of the Opera.

Television
Evans’ early screen work includes guest appearances on British series such as Doctor Who (2008) and a recurring role in the BBC drama The Great Game: Afghanistan (2009). He gained wider visibility through his portrayal of the vampire Marcus in the Syfy series The Vampire Diaries (2010).

Film career
Evans transitioned to feature films with supporting roles in Clash of the Titans (2010) and The Three Musketeers (2011), where he played Aramis. His breakthrough as a leading man came with the portrayal of the villainous Bard the Bowman in The Hobbit film series (2013–2014). He further established his Hollywood profile with the role of Gaston in Disney’s live‑action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast (2017). Other notable films include Fast & Furious 6 (2013), Dracula Untold (2014), The Last Jedi (2017) as Senator Bain, and The Suicide Squad (2021) as The Ratcatcher.

Music
In addition to acting, Evans released his debut solo album, At Last, in 2023, featuring a collection of classic standards performed in a traditional pop style.
