Luigi Cocilovo

Luigi Cocilovo (born November 27, 1947, in Bari, Italy) is an Italian politician and trade unionist. He has held prominent positions in both national and European politics, particularly known for his work in labor law, social policy, and European integration.

Early Life and Education Cocilovo pursued a career in law, specializing in labor relations. His early career was significantly shaped by his involvement in trade union activities.

Trade Union Career Before entering mainstream politics, Cocilovo was a leading figure in the Italian trade union movement. He rose through the ranks of the Unione Italiana del Lavoro (UIL), one of Italy's major trade union confederations. His work at UIL focused on public sector employment and collective bargaining, where he gained expertise in social and labor policies.

National Political Career Cocilovo's political career began with his election to the Italian Parliament. He served as a Member of the Chamber of Deputies. A key period in his national political service was his tenure as Minister of Labour and Social Policies in the first D'Alema government, serving from October 1998 to April 2000.
