Luciano Bivar

Definition
Luciano Bivar is a Brazilian entrepreneur and politician who has held multiple elected offices, including federal deputy and senator, and who has served as the president of the Liberal Party (Partido Liberal, PL).

Overview
Luciano Caldas Bivar was born on 29 November 1944 in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. He built his career as a businessman, notably in the sectors of hospitality and entertainment, before entering politics. Bivar was first elected to the Chamber of Deputies as a federal deputy for Pernambuco, serving terms from 1999 to 2000, 2001 to 2005, and 2005 to 2007. He later returned to the lower house for the 2019–2022 legislative period. In the 2022 general election, Bivar was elected senator for Pernambuco, assuming office on 1 February 2023.

In 2018, Bivar became the national president of the Liberal Party (PL), a centrist‑right political organization. Under his leadership, the PL merged with the former Party of the Republic (PR) and subsequently endorsed Jair Bolsonaro as its presidential candidate in the 2022 election. Bivar himself briefly registered as a presidential candidate in 2022 before withdrawing in favor of Bolsonaro.

Bivar is recognized for his close political alignment with Bolsonaro’s administration and for advocating policies that emphasize economic liberalism, deregulation, and support for private enterprise.
