It is situated in the eastern part of the county near the intersection of Farm to Market Roads 2502 and 1093, approximately 8 mi (13 km) west of Sealy and 12 mi (19 km) northeast of Bellville. The community lies within the Central Texas region and is part of the Greater Houston metropolitan area.

History
Lowake was established in the late 19th century as a rural farming settlement. The community was named after the Lowake family, who were early landowners in the area. A post office operated in Lowake from 1900 until it was discontinued in the early 1930s, after which mail service was redirected to nearby towns. Throughout the 20th century, Lowake remained a small agrarian community, with its population reported as 45 residents in the 2000 census estimate.
