Losoya is an unincorporated community located in southern Bexar County, Texas, United States. It is situated approximately 12 to 15 miles south of downtown San Antonio, positioned near the intersection of U.S. Highway 281 and Loop 1604, close to the San Antonio River.
The settlement was named after the Losoya family, who were early residents and landowners in the region. A post office was established in the community in 1904 and remained in operation until approximately 1913. Historically, the area is significant for its proximity to the site of the Battle of Medina, fought on August 18, 1813, which was the deadliest battle in Texas history during the Mexican War of Independence.
As an unincorporated area, Losoya does not possess a municipal government; local governance and public services are provided by Bexar County. The community is served by the Southside Independent School District, which operates Losoya Middle School in the vicinity.
Throughout the 20th century, Losoya transitioned from a primarily rural agricultural settlement into a part of the expanding San Antonio metropolitan area. While specific population figures for the community are often aggregated with broader county data, historical records indicate a population of approximately 150 in the 1930s and 250 by the early 1950s. Today, the area is characterized by a combination of residential developments and rural landscape.
