Loreto Convent, Gibraltar

Loreto Convent, Gibraltar is an independent co-educational primary school located in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. Established in 1845, it is the oldest school in Gibraltar and was founded by the Sisters of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, an order commonly known as the Loreto Sisters.

The institution was originally founded to provide education for the daughters of Catholic families in Gibraltar and the children of British military personnel. While it began as a girls' school, it transitioned over time to a co-educational model and currently provides education for pupils aged 3 to 12 years.

The school is situated on Europa Road in a building that has undergone several expansions to accommodate modern educational requirements. Its curriculum is based on the National Curriculum of England, adapted for the local context of Gibraltar. Despite its Catholic foundation and the continued presence of a Catholic ethos, the school admits students from various religious and cultural backgrounds.

Loreto Convent, Gibraltar is part of a global network of Loreto schools managed by the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which operates educational institutions across several continents. The school is subject to inspections and follows the educational standards relevant to private primary education within the territory.
