Lloyd Rutherford Craighill (Chinese name: 葛兴仁; September 3, 1886 – March 13, 1971) was an American Episcopal missionary and bishop who served in China.
Early Life and Education
Craighill was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, to George Peyton Craighill and Lydia Eliza Langhorne Craighill. He received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Virginia Theological Seminary.
Missionary Work and Episcopacy
Craighill served as an American missionary to China for over three decades. On November 29, 1940, he was consecrated as the second Bishop of Anking (Anglican), succeeding Daniel Trumbull Huntington, who had served as the first missionary Bishop of Anking.
Departure from China and Later Life
Craighill left China in 1949 amid the Communist Revolution. His resignation as Bishop of Anking was accepted by the 1949 General Convention of the Episcopal Church on September 28 of that year and was effective immediately.
Death and Burial
He died on March 13, 1971, and is buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Lexington, Virginia.
