Little River Extension (full name: Ganatchio Trail – Little River Extension) is a 3.25-kilometer paved recreational multi-use trail in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. It was first built in 1996 and serves as a link between the Forest Glade subdivision, the Ganatchio Trail, Sandpoint Beach, Stop 26 Beach, and Lakeview Park and Marina. The trail has a posted speed limit of 20 km/h (12 mph).
The trail was sponsored by Lions Club International, Kiwanis, and Rotary International. It features a commemorative sign at its northern roundabout/traffic circle with the Ganatchio Trail, depicting its length and map location. A second roundabout exists at the extension of Little River Road, leading west toward the Riverside and Villages of Riverside neighbourhoods.
Connections: The Little River Extension connects north to the Ganatchio Trail and west to the Little River Road Trail and Bike Lanes. It crosses Wyandotte Street via a grade-separated interchange (a tunnel under the road, completed in 2007) and terminates near the intersection of Ridge Road and Kerby Road. The trail includes several spurs, including one branching toward Bertha Avenue and the "Little River Trail" loop over Little River Hill.
History: The first phase was completed in 1996, and a second phase was completed in 2007. In 2006, the City of Windsor opened the "Bridge to Nowhere" providing a second link along Wyandotte Street. The trail was extended south in early 2007, heading west along Tecumseh Road to new traffic signals, then south along the east bank of Little River through the Forest Glade forest.
Planned expansion: As of 2006, Windsor City Council discussed buying a CN Rail spur line for conversion into a rail trail connecting to the Riverfront Bike Trail. The trail is also part of the proposed "Windsor Loop," a planned beltway of bike trails, bike lanes, and signed routes encircling the city.
