The President of the Senate of Cambodia is the presiding officer of the Senate, the upper house of the Cambodian Parliament. The position is significant as the President of the Senate acts as the acting Head of State in the absence of the King of Cambodia, a role typically held when the King is abroad or incapacitated. The Senate's primary functions include reviewing and approving laws passed by the National Assembly, proposing legislation, and overseeing the government's activities.
The Senate of Cambodia was established in 1999 as part of constitutional reforms. Its members are indirectly elected by commune councillors and appointed by the King. The President of the Senate is elected by the Senators from among their own ranks for the duration of the Senate's mandate.
