Lisa Lambert

Lisa Lambert is an American actress, singer, writer, and composer, best known for her contributions to musical theatre. She is most widely recognized as the co-writer of the book and lyrics for the critically acclaimed Broadway musical The Drowsy Chaperone, for which she received a Tony Award.

Early Life and Career

Lambert began her career primarily as an actress and singer, performing in various theatre productions. Her collaborative work, particularly with writing partners Greg Morrison, Bob Martin, and Don McKellar, began to gain prominence in the Canadian theatre scene before reaching international recognition.

The Drowsy Chaperone

Lambert co-wrote the music and lyrics for The Drowsy Chaperone, a meta-musical that parodies 1920s American musical comedies. The show originated in Toronto, Canada, where it premiered at the Toronto Fringe Festival in 1999. It later transferred to Broadway in 2006, where it achieved significant critical and commercial success.

For her work on The Drowsy Chaperone, Lambert, along with her co-writer Greg Morrison, won the Tony Award for Best Original Score in 2006. The musical also won the Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical (shared with Bob Martin and Don McKellar) and Best Musical. The show received a total of five Tony Awards out of fourteen nominations. Lambert also performed in the original Toronto production and several subsequent productions of The Drowsy Chaperone.
