Linda Kitson

Linda Kitson (born 1945) is a British artist best known for her work as an official war artist during the 1982 Falklands War. She is recognized for her watercolour paintings and illustrations documenting military operations and the experiences of service personnel.

Overview
Kitson was appointed by the British Ministry of Defence as the official artist accompanying the British Armed Forces in the Falkland Islands conflict, becoming the first woman to hold this role in a modern war. Over the course of the campaign she produced more than 250 sketches and paintings, many of which were later exhibited and published in the book The Falklands War: A Visual Diary (1982). Her work provides a visual record of naval and ground operations, as well as the daily life of soldiers, sailors, and aircrew.

Following the Falklands conflict, Kitson continued her artistic career, exhibiting her work in the United Kingdom and internationally. She has produced portraits, landscapes, and illustrations for books and magazines, and has taught and lectured on the role of art in documenting contemporary events.
