Linda Hofstad Helleland (born 7 May 1977) is a Norwegian politician affiliated with the Conservative Party (Høyre). She has been a Member of the Storting (the Norwegian parliament) representing the constituency of Akershus since 2009. Helleland served as Minister of Culture and Equality in the cabinet of Prime Minister Erna Solberg from 22 January 2020 until the Solberg government left office on 14 October 2021.
Early life and education
Helleland was born in Oslo, Norway. She earned a cand.polit. degree in political science from the University of Oslo. Prior to entering full‑time politics, she worked as a researcher and political advisor.
Political career
- Parliamentary service: First elected to the Storting in the 2009 parliamentary election, Helleland has been re‑elected in subsequent elections (2013, 2017, 2021). During her tenure, she has served on several committees, including the Standing Committee on Education, Research and Church Affairs and the Standing Committee on Family and Cultural Affairs.
- Government minister: In a cabinet reshuffle on 22 January 2020, Helleland succeeded Trine Skei Grande as Minister of Culture and Equality. In this role, she was responsible for cultural policy, media, sports, and issues related to gender equality. Her tenure included overseeing reforms to the public broadcasting sector, supporting the Norwegian film industry, and implementing measures to combat gender‑based violence.
- Other roles: Helleland has held leadership positions within the Conservative Party at the regional level and has been active in debates on education, cultural funding, and family policy.
Personal life
Linda Hofstad Helleland is married and has children. She resides in Bærum, Akershus.
