Overview
Lianhu District (Chinese: 莲湖区, pinyin: Liánhú Qū) is one of the central urban districts of the prefecture‑level city of Xi’an, the capital of Shaanxi Province, People’s Republic of China. The district is named after Lianhu (Lotus Lake) Park, a historic public park located within its boundaries.
Geography
- Location: Situated in the western part of Xi’an’s historic core, Lianhu borders Beilin District to the east, Xincheng District to the north, Yanta District to the south, and Baqiao District to the west.
- Area: Approximately 38 km² (≈ 14.7 sq mi).
- Topography: The district lies on the Guanzhong Plain; its terrain is generally flat, with the city’s historic moat and remnants of early city walls intersecting the area.
History
Lianhu’s origins trace back to the Tang dynasty (618–907), when it formed part of the imperial capital’s urban layout. The modern administrative unit was established after the founding of the People’s Republic of China, undergoing several boundary adjustments before attaining its current status as a district of Xi’an in 1955.

Lianhu is subdivided into several subdistricts (街道, jiēdào). As of the latest governmental reorganization, the district comprises the following subdistricts:

Lianhu functions as a commercial and service hub within Xi’an. Major economic activities include:
