Liang Zhen (Chinese: 梁震), originally named Liang Ai (梁靄), was a Chinese scholar‑official of the early 10th century. He is most noted for serving as the chief strategist of Gao Jixing (also known as Gao Jichang), the founding prince of the Jingnan (Nanping) state during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period.

According to historical accounts, while traveling near Chengdu during Emperor Xizong of Tang’s flight from the Huang Chao rebellion, Liang presented poetry to the imperial official Liu Xiang. Liu praised his work but advised a name change, interpreting the character Ai (靄) as “rain‑meet,” an inauspicious omen. He suggested the name Zhen (震), composed of “rain” and “dragon,” which was considered more auspicious. Liang adopted this new name.
Career
- Passed the imperial examinations, attaining the Jinshi degree, yet did not hold a formal position in the Tang capital Chang’an.
- Around 908, after the fall of the Tang dynasty and during the Later Liang era, Liang attempted to return home but passed through Jiangling. There he encountered Gao Jichang, then military governor of Jingnan Circuit.
- Impressed by Liang’s talent, Gao sought to make him a secretary. Liang declined, citing Gao’s low birth and expressing willingness to serve only in a civilian capacity. He subsequently became Gao’s chief strategist.
Later life
Following his service under Gao Jixing, Liang retired and was later referred to as the Hermit of Jing Tower (荊臺隱士). Details of his death are not recorded in surviving sources.
