Lewie Coyle

Lewie Coyle (born 29 March 1995) is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender or midfielder for Hull City in the English Football League Championship. He has previously represented Leeds United, Fleetwood Town, and Accrington Stanley in the English football league system.

Early life and education
Coyle was born in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, England. He began playing football at a young age and progressed through the youth academy of his hometown club, Middlesbrough, before moving to Leeds United’s academy in 2012.

Club career

Leeds United
Coyle signed his first professional contract with Leeds United in 2013. He made his senior debut for Leeds on 30 August 2014 in a League Cup match against Bolton Wanderers. During his time at Leeds, he made limited first‑team appearances, primarily featuring for the under‑23 side.

Loan spells
To gain first‑team experience, Coyle was loaned to several clubs:

  • Fleetwood Town (2015): Joined on a short‑term loan, making four league appearances.
  • Accrington Stanley (2015–2016): Completed a season‑long loan, appearing in 28 league matches and scoring one goal.

Hull City
In July 2017, Coyle transferred to Hull City on a free transfer. He became a regular starter, operating mainly as a right‑back or right‑wing‑back. Over multiple seasons, Coyle contributed to Hull’s promotion campaign in the 2020–21 season, when the club secured automatic promotion from League One to the Championship. As of the end of the 2023–24 season, Coyle has made over 150 league appearances for Hull City and has scored several goals.

International career
Coyle has not been capped at senior level for England. He has not represented England at youth international levels either.

Coyle is noted for his versatility, being able to play both defensive and midfield roles on the right flank. His strengths include stamina, crossing ability, and defensive positioning. He is often deployed as a wing‑back in formations that require width and defensive solidity.
