Lew Schneider (born January 2, 1961) is an American television writer, producer, and director. He is best known for his work on the sitcom Seinfeld and as the creator and showrunner of the satirical news program The Newsroom (2004–2005).
Early Life and Education
Lew Schneider was born in New York City. He attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. While at university, Schneider was involved in student comedy groups, which sparked his interest in writing and performing.
Career
Television Writing and Production
- Seinfeld (1994–1998): Schneider joined the writing staff in its sixth season and contributed scripts for several episodes, including “The Butter Shave” (unproduced) and “The Voice”. He was promoted to supervising producer and received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series.
- The Newsroom (2004–2005): Schneider created this Comedy Central series, a satirical take on a televised news program. He served as showrunner, executive producer, and occasional director, overseeing its two-season run.
