Arthur Leslie "Les" Diplock (24 May 1920 – 1974) was an English [[professional footballer]] who played as a [[forward]]. He spent his professional career in the [[Football League]] with clubs such as [[Bristol Rovers]], [[Swindon Town]], and [[Newport County]].
Career
Born in [[Bristol]], England, Les Diplock began his football career playing for local teams before the outbreak of [[World War II]]. After the war, he joined his hometown club, [[Bristol Rovers]], making his professional debut in the 1946–47 season. He made 10 league appearances for the "Pirates," scoring 2 goals.In 1947, Diplock moved to fellow Football League club [[Swindon Town]]. It was at Swindon where he established himself as a prolific goalscorer. Over three seasons with the "Robins," he made 68 league appearances and scored 25 goals, becoming a key attacking player for the club.
His strong performances attracted the attention of [[Newport County]], whom he joined in 1950. Diplock continued his goalscoring form at [[Somerton Park]], playing 90 league matches and netting 25 goals during his three years with the Welsh club.
After leaving Newport County in 1953, Diplock continued his career in non-league football, notably playing for [[Bath City]] in the [[Southern League]] for a season, where he made 15 appearances and scored 3 goals, and later for [[Gloucester City]].
