Lentegí

Lentegí is a municipality located in the province of Granada, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. It is situated in the central part of the Costa Tropical comarca (district), nestled in the foothills of the Sierra de Lújar, and bordered by the municipalities of Otívar, Albuñuelas, Los Guájares, Jete, and Almuñécar.

Geographically, Lentegí is characterized by its rugged terrain, with steep valleys and hillsides. Despite its proximity to the Mediterranean coast, it is located slightly inland, providing a distinct microclimate that supports the cultivation of various subtropical fruits, such as avocados, custard apples, and mangoes, alongside traditional citrus groves. The municipality's economy is primarily agricultural, with tourism also playing a minor role due to its rural charm and proximity to coastal resorts.

The village itself is small, with a modest population that has seen fluctuations over the decades, generally trending towards stability or slight decline, consistent with many rural areas in Spain. Its historical origins are believed to date back to Moorish times, like many settlements in the region, with its structure and agricultural practices reflecting this heritage. Lentegí maintains a quiet, traditional Andalusian atmosphere, with narrow streets, white-washed houses, and a strong sense of local community.
