Legia Warsaw (Polish: Legia Warszawa) is a professional football (soccer) club based in Warsaw, Poland. It competes in the Ekstraklasa, the top tier of Polish football.
Overview
Founded in 1916 as a military sports club of the Polish Legions, Legia Warsaw has become one of Poland’s most successful and widely supported football teams. The club’s senior team plays its home matches at the Stadion im. Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego, commonly referred to as the Legia Stadium, which has a capacity of approximately 31,000 spectators. Legia has won multiple domestic titles, including more than a dozen Ekstraklasa championships and a comparable number of Polish Cups. The team regularly participates in European competitions, having reached the UEFA Champions League group stage and the UEFA Europa League knockout phases on several occasions.
Etymology/Origin
